Hi all, I'm Shaun aka DarkOptimism and I signed up for Superstruct because I don't want to see tomorrow cancelled due to lack of interest.  I am unashamedly positive about what kind of a world humanity could create, and unashamedly realistic about how far we are from creating it today.

I can't wait to work with you other SEHIs around the world to hear what's really happening out there and start doing something about it.

As part of the GEAS Tracking Team I'll be acting as one of your guides to addressing the Power Struggle Superthreat - I'll be keeping an eye on the content you submit, getting involved with your ideas and sending out a weekly update every Wednesday highlighting the most interesting content. I'll also be contributing to the other Superthreats where I can.

By the way, if you don't feel you've got anything interesting to contribute to Superstruct, you're wrong! You have no idea how desperately we need more information about all aspects of what's going on out there, no matter how mundane it might seem to you. If you're lacking inspiration start by joining in with existing discussions or keep your eyes open for our weekly story challenges, which will raise issues we're particularly keen to hear more about.

IRL, I live on the Azores island chain, mid-Atlantic. I divide my time between working on our communal Permaculture farms, making fortnightly trading trips to the other islands in my yacht and acting as an online climate/energy analyst to various institutions and individuals around the world. Hey all. This is Sven. Just wanted to introduce myself and give you a sense of where I come from in all of this.

First off, I'm probably not the kind of person most of you would expect to be helping others navigate the problems we're confronting now. For one thing, I've not previously been especially passionate about any of these issues. "Aware, but mostly uninvolved" probably best described me until recently. I won't go into detail here about what's changed for me, but if you want to know more about me you can read my profile by searching for "csven" in the SEHI directory. If you really want to understand the "how" and "why" behind my change of heart, you can read about the recent experience I had crossing the ocean which brought me into contact with this group and all of you.

Secondly, I'm no expert. I know some stuff and have had some relevant experiences, but that's nothing compared to a lot of other people; to some of you. The real experts, though, are probably locked away in labs working their butts off to figure out how we're going to get through this. I don't belong in a lab and, however smart some of you are, apparently you don't either. But that doesn't mean we can't contribute something significant. And when you get a lot of people networked together working to come up with solutions - even people who aren't certified experts - I'm thinking we can do just that; do something significant by forming our own superstruct teams and tackling these problems.

So anyway, I'm assisting with the Power Struggle superthreat. I'm mostly going to try to use my own experiences and abilities to simply ask you the best questions which help you to arrive at the most relevant answers. It's in that capacity you'll most see me, so if I sound like the typical annoying little brat that asks "Why?" over and over, now you know. I'm just trying bring out the expert in every one of us.

So on that note, give me a reason to pepper you with questions by explaining your situation so we can all learn with you and hopefully help you to solve some problems. So tell us a story about the struggle where you are.
