GEAS Leadership Arrested

The US Department of Justice raided the offices of the Global Extinction Awareness System on Friday, taking into custody the core leadership team of the non-profit organization. No charges were specified at the time of arrest. By late Saturday, most of the GEAS leaders had been released, with the exception of GEAS executive director Audrey Chen, who remains in custody.

In a statement on Sunday, Attorney General Gilbert Maxwell characterized the arrests as a "strike against the chaos enveloping the nation," and referred to the GEAS Extinction Report as "a brazen act of psychological terrorism." The Attorney General did not dispute any of the specifics of the report, but did describe its release as "knowingly irresponsible" and "solely intended to undermine the legitimacy of duly elected governments around the world."

As yet, no other nation has publicly announced either support or condemnation of the arrests, although representatives from the UN and the EU privately expressed shock.

In a post on the GEAS blog, 21st Century Ideas, one staffer suggested that the arrests were an attempt to distract attention away from the ongoing Constitutional crisis in the United States, with the still-unresolved 2018 mid-term election results.
