      With a little cooperation, less manufacturing will be required to fulfill our world's want for goods.  Bizarre and hard-to-find components for DIY projects may be sitting in someone's garage, rather than at a hardware or electronics store.  Also, with this much less money spent on whatever it is you get here, you can afford to buy that much more food.

  • How this superstruct works

    • Post a description of items you don't want, along with your approximate location.  Members will send you messages requesting the item; you choose who gets it, and tell them.  Together, you arrange to meet in a public, populated area (for security reasons!) and they will get the item from you.  You now have that much more space in your home, and they have an item they can use.  Everyone benefits!

      Please keep in mind that I did not invent Freecycle-- it has been around for over a decade.  Go find your local chapter online.

    • Remember: Safety is the most important thing.  If you suspect the person who requests your item will cause you harm if you meet, then don't select them to recieve the item! And never, NEVER go alone to meet someone at someone's house, no matter how big and scary you believe you are.

       HOW CAN WE SUPERSTRUCT FREECYCLE? I agree that this is the seed for an excellent response to the superthreats. But FreeCycle already exists -- applying it to the superthreats doesn't consitute a superstructure yet.

      * On that front, it would be great to see specific examples of what kinds of items should be FreeCycled to help others suffering from specific superthreats. What do you think would be the most useful items to put back into circulation for which superthreats.

      * It would be great to see some institutional or corporate or large-scale organization support for improving and perhaps scaling the core FreeCycle idea. Does anyone work for or with a traditional organization that could help scale or augment grassroots FreeCycle strategies?  -- POSTED BY AVANTGAME

      There already is - the Freecycle is funded by the largest Waste Management company in North America.  It has left the sphere of the grassroots by 2019 and ...well I have a STORY brewing....picture waste management grinding to a halt and resources directed instead to large scale composting, recycling in accordance with C2C design principles, and freecycling replacing curbside garbage pick up.  Heavy fees for any remaining garbage and YOU get it to the dump and pay by weight rather than it being a municipal service.  I want Oscar the Grouch to be the spokesperson for the Freecycle! - mudmama
