Starting a superstructure is only the beginning. The real task is envisioning what it can do, how it will work, and who you need to work with. If you're not a member, consider joining now. If you are a member, be bold, jump in, and use the superstructure to start organizing for survival. Edit it, add to the vision, and make it real, online and off. And don't forget to rave.

  • Who We Need

Is there enough goodwill in our communities to support this project wholly with government funding? Should the women of these houses also provide some community service (laundry, cooking) as a means to help pay for The Global Village?

  • How to join
  • Mission
This superstuct sets to establish in every community with an immigrant or refugee population (read: every community), houses dedicated to refugee and immigrant women where they can cook, wash, and care for the children in the company and support of their peers.
  • What we can accomplish
    • Women and children often bear the worst of life's clamities of war and disaster.

Through this superstruct, we can support the women who care for their families. Stronger, happier, healthier women mean stronger, happier, healthier families.

  • How this superstruct works
    • My neighbour is a family of refugees from the Sudan. The husband works to provide for his family and his wife stays at home to take care of their preschool children. There are many other women in my community like her - isolated by language from everyone but family. I can understand her situation a little bit as my mom, an immigrant, went through a similar experience.

This superstruct seeks to provide a foundation for immigrant and refugee women to work together and support each other. It also provides a means so that social services such as public health, should have an easier means to reach this community.

Men often have access to a "third space" such as a pub, away from the pressures of work and home. Immigrant women often don't have such a simple luxury.

  • Discuss this superstructure
    • I think this superstructure would flourish if we could figure out a kind of physical space that is unused or under-used for significant portions of the day. I am reminded of the classic old text Hot Flat Crowded (by Tom Friedman) -- his call to find multiple uses for spaces so that they are utilized 24 hour a day in resource efficient way. So I would say that as a next step, we could determined how many and which hours would be most beneficial for women to have his kind of space -- and what kind of spaces do you think would be available during these hours? -- POSTED BY AVANTGAME

The Secret Source for All - we are working on creating a data base of informational videos and counselors for all refugees or immigrants who might not understand the different nuances of their new culture. How to date in America? Please help us make videos, or suggest videos which would be very helpful to refugee women you are working with. Keep up the good work!
