We Have the Power!

Energy Harvesting Clothes!
solspire

Being part of the Superstruct community has a rippling effect. I am affected; the student teachers I work with are affected; and the children they will eventually work with will be affected. Students created energy harvesting clothes as a response to the Power Struggle Superthreat.

It’s hard to imagine saving the world simply by playing, learning together, inventing, and creating. But perhaps THAT is the best example of a “synergetic solution”—when the solution design is fluid and natural, and we suddenly realize the pure joy of learning and working together on things that really matter.

Superstruct helps me press forward in my research about teaching and learning in the 21st century. What are the learning platforms and curriculums that need to be imagined? What mechanisms do we need to synchronize living systems? How do we foster relational skills we haven’t yet named? How do we manage non-hierarchical collaborative systems? Can we build sustainable new ground without foundations? What is school for and what is living well?

I’ve met passionate people who are SUPREMELY competent at what they do, with imaginations and talents and skills that make me hopeful for humanity’s future. Liz, from my class, sums up this experience well. Superstruct raises awareness. Awareness leads to action. Action leads to knowledge. Knowledge leads to power.

We have the power in our bodies. Watch the video!

good production quality; more important, seamless integration of attire being leveraged creatively on behalf of sustainability.

That video was fun to watch - they sound so excited about these ideas. I loved the way you explained what supertruct has done to raise awareness and promote action i Fell that way too though my action is less brilliant. I've signed up to my local food network to volunteer and learn about food production, i've started making my own diaper covers, buying local again, making toys out of "garbage". I feel at least a bit reconnected to the world and excited. Thank you for your contribution to this.

The clothing ideas are so innovative, with amazing new materials and a creative way of placing them all together making sustainable clothing. A great way to be environmentally friendly and stylish!

It was great to be a part of this production. Having the opportunity to contribute to something that is bigger than you, bigger than your class, and bigger than your school is a powerful opportunity. It is important to keep in mind that our actions affect a lot more than just our immediate surroundings.

It amazes me that there are so many ways to collect different types of energy. Who would have thought a person could use a hair razor with the power from a belt that collects sound waves for energy. Very creative ideas and hope the thought that went into this project can influence others to continue the work throughout the years.

At first I thought it would be hard to come up with energy producing ideas; but it only took a few moments of really thinking about needing it and the ideas began to flow. The best part is some of these ideas are possible, they could be made and they could really work!

It is so powerful to think about the opportunities students will gain from innovating inventions and ideas about how our world can improve and generate energy just by the sun and/or our own body energy! Watching this video demonstrates the power of innovative minds and how we can accomplish so much by working together. As a future teacher of the 21st century, I can involve my students in these ways to find solutions for our ever-changing world.

This video should me how important it is to start thinking today about how we can change our future. Some of the technology in the clothing we designed is already on the market, and working. Being part of this production made me realize how easy it is to become an active participant in creating sustainable items. Sustainability doesn't have to be about what we can do in the future. It is about what we can do in the here and now to better the world we live in, so for future generations they do not have to face the energy problems we are facing today.

I was not actually a part of the production but I watched as my fellow classmates got extremely involved with the materials they were given. It is amazing that after a short period of time they were able to come up with such innovative ideas. It just goes to show that all we have to do to start seeing changes in our communities and environment is to try new things. There is so much that can be done with the amount of technology we have today.

This project was an interesting and fun one to be a part of. Learning how we can use our own body to create and harvest energy to power our cell phones or i-pods. Its a crazy small idea on how to power cell phones but it makes a lot of sense to use the energy we create to power things we use as well.

I think it is great that our class came up with such wonderful ideas to harvest energy. I loved learning about the piezoeletric materials that have energy collecting fibers in them. Being environmentally friendly is something everyone could take a few seconds of their day to learn about. Everyone in the video had such great ideas!

I think this video does a great job of showing all the options that there are for creating a more sustainable environment. Self sustainability is also something that I gained from participating in this activity. I had no idea about all of the amazing technology out their, for example the piezoelectric material that allows people to collect kinetic energy an convert it into actual uses, e.g., charging electronics and powering your cell phone. I was also very inspired by the use of solar equipment that allows people to collect solar energy and convert it into power for their day to day needs. With all of these amazing technological abilities, it is easy for me to image how we can conserve and use energy in better ways in the future, especially in regards to sustaina
