What happened last week

Video is one of the more reliable ways to communicate these days, so I produce a weekly video for friends and family to update them on our lives. This week, I discuss something that happened last week that gave me lots of food for thought.

Laura, it\\\'s brave of you to share your story like this. But your niece should be *quarantined* in a facility getting proper medical care! You\\\'ve got to be careful, someone might report you...

The whole fear of medical undercoverage or inaccessibility to modern medicine is a *little* overrated. Medicine in a semi third world country like (say) 2000 guatamala is still better than what most people had in the US or Europe in the 1950s and not all that expensive. If medical services are to costly there will be street alternatives. If medicines will become to expensive, black market produced medication will jump into the void.

I believe that with proper education and precautions, those infected with ReDS should never been isolated from their families and friends, which are a vital aspect to their general well-being, especially when ill. My family and I are in a rural area, with no big facilities nearby (though there are doctors in the community). Should my niece be quarantined somewhere, I\\\'m certain it would be too far away to visit regularly, and we would all suffer for that. Also, this is a somewhat selfish reason but one I think many people share - it is just plain comforting to be able to see people every day, and to know that they\\\'re safe. I\\\'d be nervous about her being transported any long distance, and I would worry about the facilities and the weather and whether or not they could receive supplies...

The week of Sept 20th to Oct 4th? I think you may have lost a few days there. That headache wasn't Reds; I'd suspect a hangover.
