GEAS Site Gets the Grief Treatment

Is a superthreat striking back?
Tony Fisk

Early contributors to the GEAS Superstruct initiative have reported an upsurge in 'grief' attacks."My blog was flagged as a Spam Field and walled off within minutes of my registering""That's all I did, but it's really having an impact on my cloud scaping!" said one source. Other people have had similar experiences, and some suspect a grief plague.

Grief plagues are viral bots that infiltrate a cloud service and use its resources to trigger various unsolicited and unwelcome behaviour on unwitting users. Usually this takes the form of tailored spam, but the algorithms employed have been growing in sophistication and malice.

"We have had some complaints" said a spokeswoman for Superstruct. "but these were the sort of start-up problems to be expected of an undertaking this size. Our technicians are fixing the problems as fast as they can, and there are currently no indications that we have unleashed any 'grief plague' on our members." "Believe me, we know the risks of cyber-hacks and how to deal with them. We have taken every precaution to ensure this doesn't happen!"

Super-infra-struct (http://www.superstructgame.net/SuperstructView/99) is attempting to mobilize users and coders in superstructing around the griefing attacks. If you can describe specific obstacles for us to overcome at the Complaints Department (http://superstruct.wikia.com/wiki/Complaints_Department), or collaborate with us in finding structural and technical solutions, you'll be turning this grief wave into an opportunity for decentralization and creativity.

The spam mafias are so deeply entrenched in existing systems and networks and private computers, these people are an international force to be recognized and feared by many mid sized or smaller nations. If they don't like something they lash out - or are paid by someone else who in turn likes even less what is said. Even in 2019 there are still teeming hordes of deniers. Christians claiming all this is the lead-up to the "left behind" scenario and quietly wishing to speed events a little ... or carbon companies still discretely working to counter climate change debate ... or medical companies who are afraid of nationalization, protection their inflated income. Superstruct, GEAS and all that are very significant threats on THEIR radar and will take steps to lash out.
