    OutlawPlanet: Disconnect The World

Interconnectivity is one of the main reasons why cyber-attacks cause so much damage.

There are so many systems today that are connected to one another - voice and facial recognition systems connected to security systems, RFID scanners connected to government databases and financial institutions, city-wide camera systems that can transmit your license plate to local police departments. And almost every piece of information about you can be accessed by law enforcement, military, government, even corporate entities. One little change in one database can cause total havoc in a person's life, could tell major banks you've defaulted on loans you never took out, tell cops you have outstanding warrants for fraud. Why are all these systems inter-connected? Why has this become necessary for day-to-day life. Experts keep telling us it's for our own safety, so why do I feel less secure? Can we reduce our dependence on vulnerable computer systems?

The problem is not the technology, but the use we humans make of them. Technology - wether it is a hammer, a car or a googlemaps, are just an enabler. People choose to use a hammer to build or to kill, we should be looking at why are people interested in using technology to do wrong.
